Caretaker Energy Minister Cesar Abi Khalil and American Ambassador to Lebanon Elizabeth Richard Monday discussed an electricity project that could pave the way for heavier investment of American companies in Lebanon.
The conference was held by American company Primesouth. According to its website, Primesouth has been awarded a contract to operate and maintain power plants in Deir Ammar and Zahrani for five years.
Abi Khalil said the project “should pave the way for more American companies to invest in Lebanon.”
“American companies want to work in Lebanon. These companies insist on investing with the private sector in Lebanon,” Richard said.
The power plants are one method of addressing Lebanon’s long-standing electricity crisis, which during the news conference Abi Khalil vowed his ministry will continue doing despite the obstacles it has faced.
