H.E. the Minister of Municipality and Environment Abdullah bin Abdulaziz bin Turki al-Subaie has underlined the great importance that Qatar attaches to the agricultural sector as a sector entrusted with achieving food security.
The minister commended the important and effective role played by farm owners by increasing agricultural production and thereby raising self-sufficiency rates of various agricultural commodities.
This came during al-Subaie’s meeting yesterday with a group of local farm owners. He was briefed on the obstacles and difficulties facing increasing agricultural production and measures employed to overcome them.
The minister also stressed the keenness of the Ministry of Municipality and Environment to provide all support to the owners of productive farms in the fields of agriculture, animal husbandry and fisheries, to develop farms, which contribute to increasing local products.
He noted the importance of agricultural marketing in order to improve the quality of production, and the role of the ministry in supporting farmers through opening of yards to sell local agricultural products without any financial burden.
The minister called on farmers to follow modern methods in agriculture to preserve water, and overcome the obstacles related to soil salinity, high temperature and other challenges.
