Msheireb Downtown Doha (MDD), the smartest and most sustainable fully-built city district in the world, is expected to attract domestic and foreign visitors with its laser light shows and various attractions, Msheireb Properties’ marketing director Clark Williams has said.
“Every evening, we will be having a laser light show,” he told *Gulf Times while explaining that the entire Barahat Msheireb, dubbed as the largest covered public square in the Middle East, will be covered and light up with 256 types of colors, backed by music.
“There will be a seven-minute show every hour and I think that would be a huge tourist attraction,” Williams noted.
MDD’s direct connection to Souq Waqif – Qatar’s highest tourist generator – will also entice more people to visit the destination.
“We have a tunnel connected to it, the other aspect is that because we have a Qatari heritage language in the architecture, and people want to see what it is like,” he said.
The “Souq Underpass” connecting MDD with Souq Waqif opened in October last year, offering convenient access between the properties and hosts an array of retail shops.
MDD also hosts the largest metro station in the country, which can accommodate 25,000 passengers per hour, giving easy access to a large number of residents and visitors.
MDD will soon be the home of Juniverse, the world’s first “City in Space” theme park, offering an engaging and dynamic learning experience to inspire, educate, and entertain children aged 4-17 years.
With more than 50 attractions and rides, this edutainment park will engage youth in exciting, futuristic missions necessary to keep society safe and sustainable.
MDD also hosts four historic heritage houses, which form part of Msheireb Museums (MM): Bin Jelmood House (raising awareness of formerly enslaved people), Company House (sharing a history of Qatar’s petroleum industry), Radwani House (providing insights into the Qatari family life over generations), and Mohamed Bin Jassim House (a journey through Msheireb district over time).
Since its opening in 2015, MM has received around 80,000 visitors from Qatar and the wider region, as well as tourists and students of schools and universities.
Meanwhile, Williams said that MDD’s phase four will be a mixed-use unit, which will host commercial and residential buildings, including hospital and boutique hotel.
“We are launching our first residential units, 77-unit apartment, with some of the best views in Doha, facing West Bay, and where the skyline of Doha looks beautiful, especially at night,” he added.
