The first stage of an expansion project at the departures terminal of Beirut’s airport was inaugurated Monday by Transport Minister Youssef Fenianos and Tourism Minister Avedis Guidanian.
Pictures shared by local media outlets showed the General Security check-in area at Rafik Hariri International Airport renovated and the passport control counters replaced with new ones.
By the end of this month, officials hope to radically alter security and immigration procedures. Head of the airport Fadi al-Hassan previously told The Daily Star that the comprehensive project, costing $18 million, would include the relocation of many of the airport’s security checkpoints, new baggage handling system and additional infrastructure.
