The volume of investments between Qatar and Russia now stands at about $13bn, with Qatar owning 19 percent of shares in Russia’s oil giant Rosneft, which is also one of the largest oil companies in the world, Rashid bin Majid Awad Al Suwaidi, First Secretary at Qatar’s Embassy to Russia said.
He was in Doha yesterday as part of a Russian delegation who visited the Qatar Chamber (QC) to discuss Qatar’s participation in the St. Petersburg International Economic Forum which is scheduled for mid-next year.
QC Assistant Director-General for Government Relations and Committee Affairs, Ali Bu Sherbak Al Mansouri, received the delegation which also included Diana Charmadova and Andrei Igorov among others.
According to Al Suwaidi, the meeting discussed cooperation relations between Qatar and Russia, and ways of enhancing them especially between business owners and companies from both sides.
He added that the purpose of the visit was to facilitate Qatar’s participation in the Economic Forum, which will be attended by more than 20,000 participants and attended by more than 1,000 Russian companies and 500 companies from the participating countries.
Al Suwaidi also reiterated that the importance of Qatar’s participation in the forum lies in signing trade agreements and enhancing cooperation between participating Qatari companies and their counterparts from all countries across the world.
He pointed out that the forum will witness official participation and delegations of Qatar’s business owners as well as the country’s cultural participation, especially since last year was the year of cultural cooperation between Qatar and Russia.
For his part, Al Mansoori said that the forum represents an important opportunity to discuss the strengthening of cooperation relations between the Qatari private sector and its Russian counterpart, in addition to reviewing the attractive investment climate in Qatar as well as to promote the Qatari economy in general, and private sector projects in particular.
He added that the forum will also serve as a platform to strengthen Qatar’s economic partnership with Russia and the possibility of establishing alliances between Qatari businessmen and their Russian counterparts to establish joint ventures, whether in Qatar or Russia.
Al Mansoori added that the Chamber would encourage Qatari companies to participate in the forum and the accompanying exhibition.
During the meeting, Charamadova also gave a presentation on the establishment of the Forum and its objectives, in addition to its importance for the State of Qatar and the companies participating in the accompanying exhibition. Qatar’s country pavilion in the forum will include several entities from the country.
