General manager of China State Construction Engineering Corporation Egypt (CSCEC Egypt) Chang Weicai has revealed that the company will deliver the 20-tower Central Business District (CBD) in Egypt’s capita city, Cairo that it is currently constructing in 2022.
Weicai spoke to the Chinese news agency, Xinhua, and said that CBD was “one of the most important projects” within the North African nation’s new administrative capital.
Located around 50km east of Cairo, CBD will cover a construction area of 1.9km2 upon completion of construction activities, according to Weicai.
He said: “In the second half of 2021, we will start delivering the 20 buildings one by one.”
Weicai revealed the details about the project following a visit by the Egyptian Prime Minister, Mostafa Madbouly and Chinese Ambassador to Egypt, Liao Liqiang at the construction site. As part of the site tour, they visited the under-construction Iconic Tower within CBD.
Once complete the Iconic Tower will be 385m-high with 80 floors, with the structure being expected to be the tallest tower in Egypt and Africa.
Speaking about the Iconic Tower, Weicai explained that CSCEC Egypt has wrapped up construction activities for 16 floors reaching a 100-meter height.
“The construction speed rate at the tower has reached 5.5 or six days per floor. The tower is expected to be 385 meters high by the end of 2020,” Weicai added.
Construction work on CBD has been carried out by 4,800 Egyptians, including 4,000 workers and 800 engineers, as well as 1,800 Chinese nationals, divided between 1,000 workers and 800 engineers.
CSCEC has partnered with as many as 100 Egyptian local companies for the project, Weicai said.
