UAE-based Modon Properties has awarded three major infrastructure contracts worth Dh2.37 billion ($645 million) for the development of Phases Two and Five of Abu Dhabi-based residential development Riyadh City South.
A development company mandated by the Abu Dhabi government to build vibrant and sustainable communities and develop strategic mixed-use projects in the emirate, Modon said upon completion, it will include more than 6,000 residential plots, a university, five schools, two nurseries, four health centers, and mosques.
Riyadh City, located 30 km from the UAE capital, will also boast 61 commercial plots, three civil defense centers, five fuel stations, four government facilities plots, and three social services centers.
It will have easy access to major urban and industrial venues across Abu Dhabi. The project is also close to a number of major landmarks and attractions in the capital city.
Announcing the new contracts, Modon said as per the agreement, the National Projects and Construction, The Nael & Bin Harmal Hydroexport Establishment and Saif Bin Darwish Company will be responsible for the development of infrastructure works for the Phases Two and Five.
The scope of works includes the construction of internal and external roads, lighting, potable water network, rainwater drainage systems, sewerage systems, fire-fighting systems, traffic control systems, irrigation networks, electricity grids, and Pubic Realm.
Modon said it had begun preliminary works on the project in June last year, followed by the awarding of infrastructure works worth Dh1.53 billion for Phase One of the project in September and now the deal for Phase Two and Five. The contracts for Phases Three and Four would likely be inked during the second half.
The Abu Dhabi developer said with all the key phases awarded, it was aiming to complete the entire infrastructure work for Riyadh City South by the end of 2023.
ADHA acting director-general Basheer Khalfan Al Mehairbi said the project’s goal is to provide high-quality housing which guarantees an excellent standard of life for citizens and residents.
Riyadh City, he stated, was one of the most significant residential projects in Abu Dhabi today that will help tackle emirate’s rising housing needs and also meet citizens’ current aspirations.
“By selecting the services of Modon, the Abu Dhabi government is working with international specialists in the housing sector, to ensure an excellent quality of public infrastructure and providing residents with sustainable housing, in line with the future vision of Abu Dhabi,” he said.
Al Mehairbi said these directives are aligned with the goals of the Abu Dhabi Plan, which seeks to provide members of the community with housing that guarantees a high quality of life.
In addition to residential facilities, the project will include community facilities such as parks, schools, stores, mosques, medical centers, and community centers, he added.
Modon Deputy CEO Sulaiman Al Siksek said: “By implementing this project in Riyadh City South, we are enhancing our participation in the development of Abu Dhabi’s housing sector.”
“This project will provide integrated housing communities for our citizens, offering modernity, which conforms to global best practices. Through this, we will be able to provide high quality and stable lives to those who chose to reside within our communities. Modon’s housing projects will transform the housing sector and ensure that it keeps pace with the future vision of Abu Dhabi,” he added.
Al Siksek pointed out that the awarding of these contracts have taken Modon another step closer to the completion of Riyadh City South, and its vision of welcoming new home-owners into unique and vibrant communities.
“This is the second round of infrastructure contracts to have been awarded by Modon, with the first phase of contracts awarded in September 2019. These are in line with the Abu Dhabi Government’s plan to build integrated and sustainable residential communities,” he added.
