Electronic manufacturing firm Siemens has revealed its contribution towards the sultanate of Oman’s critical power, water and healthcare infrastructure, in its 2020 report titled ‘In Oman, for Oman – Making real what matters’.
As per the findings of the report, Siemens, which powers Barka III, Sohar II and SUR IP combined cycle plants with its technologies, represents 35% of Oman’s power generating capacity; 60% of distribution and transmission of the sultanate’s electricity; and 70% of Oman’s daily water supply.
In addition, 90 landmarks, including 85% of hospitals in the sultanate make use of Siemens’ building technologies.
Other significant projects which are powered by Siemens include the 326MW Duqm Integrated Power and Water Project (DIPWP) in Oman, which is responsible for electricity supply as well as water supply of 36,000m3/day to a major industrial zone in the sultanate.
The project receives long-term power generation services and digital solutions, including cybersecurity from Siemens.
In addition, the Sultan Qaboos University, which is the biggest and first public university in the Sultanate of Oman, is leading a smart campus initiative by using energy efficiency and optimization solutions from Siemens, the company stated in its report.
Making great strides in adoption of digital solutions, the sultanate has outlined in its Oman Vision 2040 its plans to upgrade infrastructure to become an industrial and trade hub.
Harnessing data to create sustainable value for customers, Siemens supplies digital solutions for 90% of the wellheads in Oman and 65% of gas chromatographs, which are used to analyze and monitor emissions.
