Oman’s Ministry of Housing and Urban Planning has released more details of the Sultan Haitham City project.
Located in the Seeb area, the project will cover an area of 14.8 million square metres and accommodate 100,000 people across 19 integrated neighbourhoods. Altogether, the city will also have 25 mosques, 11 healthcare facilities and 39 schools.
The delivery of the project has been split into four phases extending from 2024 to 2045.
The first phase, which will run from 2024 to 2030, includes the development of the city centre with an area of about 5 square kilometres. It includes six integrated neighbourhoods with a built-up area of about 2.2 million square metres. It will have 6,743 housing units, a private hospital, and a petrol station. There will also be schools and 19 areas designated for offices, and other social, cultural and service facilities.
The second phase will be developed from 2028 to 2035. It will cover an area of 2.6 square kilometres. It will accommodate more than 23,000 people in 4,200 housing units with a built-up area of about 1.4 million square metres.
The third phase will run from 2033 to 2040 and will cover an area of about 2.3 square kilometres that will house more than 21,000 people in 3,500 housing units that will have a built-up area of about 1.3 million square metres.
The project will have areas open to foreign ownership. At the same time, 5 per cent of the housing units in the city will be allocated to people on the government’s housing assistance programme.
For transportation, the city will have road links to the Muscat Expressway and Sultan Qaboos Street.
