ABB, a leading power and automation technology group, has won orders worth around $ 120 million from the Saudi Electricity Company (SEC ), to supply transformers that will help to enhance capacity and enable more electricity supply to meet growing needs.
The order was booked in the first quarter. ABB will design, manufacture, supply and install the power transformers rated at 67- and 100-megavolt ampere (MVA), which will be located at substations in the western, eastern, southern and central regions of the country, where the maximum ambient temperature reaches 55 degrees Celsius with humidity, dust and salt adding to the harsh desert conditions.
The robust, safe, reliable, efficient and environmentally friendly transformers are capable of withstanding thermal and mechanical stresses caused by severe climate conditions, high altitudes, cyclical loads and short circuit forces.
The functional design also incorporates optimal insulation to address the extreme temperature and sound pressure while corrosion-resistant paint adds to the robustness of the transformers.
"Saudi Arabia remains a key market for ABB and we are delighted to continue supporting the country in its efforts to strengthen its power infrastructure," said Bernhard Jucker, head of ABB's Power Products division.
"ABB transformers are designed to maximize availability while ensuring reliability and optimizing efficiency," he said.
"Our ongoing commitment to technical innovation combined with our vast global installed base and local market focus enables us to serve our customers with best-in-class solutions," he added.
Transformers are integral components of an electrical grid, and essential for the efficient and safe conversion of electricity between diverse voltage systems.
ABB's transformer portfolio includes power transformers rated up to 1,200 kV, dry and liquid distribution transformers, traction and special application transformers as well as related services and components.
ABB (abb.com) is a leader in power and automation technologies that enable utility and industry customers to improve performance while lowering environmental impact.
The ABB Group of companies operates in around 100 countries and employs about 145,000 people.
