Officially supported by UAE Ministry of Infrastructure Development and Dubai South, Advanced Conferences & Meetings (ACM) proudly launched Future Drainage & Stormwater Networks Dubai conference on 26 October 2016 at Sheraton Grand Hotel, Dubai, UAE.
Future Drainage & Stormwater Networks Dubai brought together government representatives, developers, engineering consultants, contractors and solution and technology providers to discuss case studies and strategies for developing, constructing and delivering a resilient drainage and stormwater network to meet the future demands of Dubai’s population and urban growth.
The conference started with the opening remarks of the chairman Sameer Daoud from Arcadis followed by an overview of drainage projects by Eng. Rashid Al-Kaoud from the Ministry of Infrastructure Development and a keynote address detailing the updates on Dubai South stormwater internal network delivered by Dubai South representative Firoz Ahmed.
Dr. Babak Bozorgy presented on sustainable urban drainage systems (SUDS) management practices and facilities whilst Michael Schütz delivered a presentation titled “Stormwater 4 challenges and 1 solution”
Other enlightening presentations were delivered by John Sheppard who detailed the design and implementation of the ‘St Germans flood alleviation Pumping Station’ and Charbel Diab who gave the attendees an introduction to Innovyze Drainage & Storm Solutions.
Two very informative case studies were presented at the event. The first one was delivered by Fabio Zulbati and tackled the stormwater management and road tunnel project in Kuala Lumpur whilst the second detailed the implementation of deep tunnelling technology and was presented by Paul Groves.
During the conference, Abu Dhabi Municipality announced that they will be supporting ACM’s upcoming conference “Future Drainage & Stormwater Networks Abu Dhabi” where they will be sharing the latest updates about their projects that will start in 2017.
The conference was followed by a networking lunch hosted by Paul Fox, Her Majesty's Consul General to Dubai and the Northern Emirates in the British Embassy Dubai.
The first day of Future Drainage & Stormwater Networks Dubai conference created the perfect platform for the attendees to build relations, exchange ideas and seize business opportunities throughout the ACMi+ interface that allowed for many networking breaks which created a dynamic, efficient and relevant learning environment.
Many key players participated in this event, to name a few: UAE Ministry of Infrastructure Development, Government of Dubai – Dubai South, Abu Dhabi Municipality, Environment Agency of Abu Dhabi, Arcadis, MWH (now part of Stantec), Atkins, British Embassy, Masdar Institute of Science and Technology, AECOM and Parsons International Limited.
Solution providers like Khatib & Alami, FRÄNKISCHE ROHRWERKE, PII, Mott Macdonald, Polypipe, Chemistry for life, StormTech, BIRCO, Rainsmart, DUTCO and HWM Global showcased their newest technologies and solutions for drainage and stormwater.
Day two (October 27) of the conference features many more interesting presentations, to name a few: Storm drainage design management and arrangements, a panel discussion about climate change and stormwater management strategies, another panel discussion on innovative O&M and asset management strategies and many more.
