As the price of crude oil continues to fluctuate in global markets without ambition amidst long-term expectations, the government’s compass is looking for other sources of finance, particularly investment. An agricultural specialist has called for investment in the production of strategic crops for export or sale locally.
As agriculture is an inexhaustible wealth, through which it can attract capital to invest, which leads to an increase in revenues of the state treasury.
The government has already begun serious steps in this, but it needs to be amended in laws and serious media campaigns, as well as the importance of accreditation of the competent and experienced in it.
And there is a need to form joint working committees of the concerned authorities, such as agriculture and water resources, representatives of the Investment Authority, provincial councils and others, to provide and prepare arable land to be offered as investment opportunities. “The liberalization of the areas controlled by Isis will contribute to attract investors to maintain security in most Governorates.
The technical agent of the Ministry of Agriculture, Dr. Mahdi al-Qaisi has stressed the importance of rehabilitation and rehabilitation of infrastructure for agricultural projects in the liberated governorates, and the great role played by the agricultural sector in support of the national economy and food security.
This came during his meeting with the technical delegation of the World Bank in his official office at the Ministry’s headquarters in the presence of the Assistant Director General of the Planning and Follow-up Department and the Assistant Director General of the Administrative and Financial Department and the Director of the Investment Plan of the Department of Planning and Follow-Ministry.
The meeting discussed the priorities of agricultural projects and financial aspects in the liberated governorates for their development and rehabilitation. The technical agent stressed the importance of the role of the Ministry of Agriculture in the reconstruction of agricultural projects to improve the agricultural sector, both vegetative and animal in this Governorates.
He added that the identification of these projects will be in accordance with the priorities of the agricultural reality that contribute to the sustainable development of the agricultural process within the emergency loan of the World Bank for the reconstruction of liberated areas in the governorates of (Salahuddin, Diyala and Nineveh Anbar).
He pointed out that this meeting is the first and will be followed by subsequent meetings to reach the final agreement between the Ministry of Agriculture and representatives of the World Bank in Iraq to classify the amounts allocated within the emergency loan granted to rehabilitate the infrastructure of agricultural projects in these provinces.
