Design and Technical Manager at Supreme Committee Eng. Abdulaziz Al Mawlawi has said that the work in Al Rayyan Stadium is in full swing and that the Stadium will be completed during the second quarter of 2019.
The Supreme Committee for Delivery and Legacy (SC), the organizing committee of Qatar 2022 World Cup, has adopted a new strategy to keep the local and international public informed about the progress of work at all the sports establishments currently under construction, as well as the accompanying infrastructure.
The 2022 World Cup is a full state project, therefore, all state institutions are working to complete their projects, which are part of Qatar National Vision 2030 with its four pillars that are based on human, social, economic and environmental development.
The SC said in a report that the World Cup is not only stadiums; it is sustainable enterprises, major reforms and significant development of infrastructure in the country, accompanied by a futuristic view of the country and its people. To further highlight the efforts of the Supreme Committee for Delivery and Legacy, the start will be with Al Rayyan Stadium which will be ready in 2019 to host the 2022 World Cup.
Al Rayyan Stadium, which belongs to one of the oldest clubs in Qatar, is set to accommodate 40,000 spectators at the World Cup. After the tournament, the number of seats will be reduced to 23,000 seats and the rest will be donated within the framework of the SC projects to support poor countries and help them develop their sporting infrastructure.
Design and Technical Manager at SC Eng. Abdulaziz Al Mawlawi underlined that the work in Al Rayyan Stadium is in full swing and that the Stadium will be completed during the second quarter of 2019.
As the case in all Qatar 2022 stadiums, Al Rayyan Stadium will not be delivered immediately after completion. The Stadium will need 6 months to test all its systems and will be tested during summer and winter in order to check on its full readiness to host the matches, Al Mawlawi added.
He noted that Al Rayyan Stadium is distinguished because it is the home of a large and prestigious club. The club’s location is also close to the Mall of Qatar, a hotel and a metro station, so it is generally qualified to serve the World Cup and beyond. The area around the stadium will also host a branch of Aspetar Hospital and sports associations.
In addition, life will continue at Al Rayyan Stadium after the Qatar 2022 World Cup, where a large park, a horse track, a runway, a hockey court, training grounds, tennis and cricket grounds will be provided. Residents of Al Rayyan area also called for a wedding hall which was implemented, in addition to the preparation of the streets and the metro, to become an integrated service area.
Eng. Abdulaziz Al Mawlawi ruled out that the Supreme Committee for Delivery and Legacy had encountered any difficulties in providing raw materials for the construction of facilities after the siege, noting that the Committee covered the first period of the siege quickly and the work progressed normally in all projects in general.
The training of national cadres was also a main concern of the SC. The senior management of the Committee is composed of Qatari cadres. Al Mawlawi explained that the Qatari cadres are present in all the World Cup projects and the project managers are all competent Qatari youth who manage the affairs professionally, assisted by outstanding foreign expertise in administrative affairs, such as Eng. Mario, the Assistant Project Manager of Al Rayyan Stadium Project.
In a related context, Al Mawlawi expressed his pride that working in Al Rayyan Stadium reached up to 20 million working hours without major accidents, bringing the accident rate to 0.01%, which is equal to the proportion of the world in such large projects. This underscores the great interest that the SC attaches to the issue of security and safety in all the projects.
Because of the vital location of Al Rayyan Stadium, Ashghal has designed and constructed a number of highways, serving Al Rayyan Stadium, one of the 2022 World Cup stadiums.
At the top of these projects is the orbital road and Dukhan Road, where Ashghal completed the Dukhan vital road in 2017 and opened it completely in front of traffic. The project included the construction of a 15 km highway, which starts west of the current Wajbah intersection and ends at a distance of about two kilometers east of the city of Shahaniya, at a cost of about QR2bn and QR240m.
