Public Works Authority (ASHGHAL) signed nine contracts in the areas of development and construction of infrastructure, roads, buildings and drainage systems with a total value of 1.4 billion Qatar Riyals. The contracts include two road development projects namely Lahwilah road and Rayyan road and related infrastructures; five contracts for the implementation of drainage network related projects that include a number of drainage networks, surface water and groundwater projects, comprising dewatering project at Kharitiat zone, construction of drainage network for Al Khor, establishment of sewerage network in several residential areas and connect them with a pumping station and Doha North treatment plant, execution of drainage network for Gharafa zone, construction of drainage network for Gharafa and Rayyan; and two educational building projects comprising construction ten kindergartens and four new schools.
The road projects include the Lahwilah road upgrading and the upgrade and beautification of Rayyan road project within the highway development projects of Ashghal.
The Huwailah road project is a strategic route in the north-east of Qatar linking Ras Laffan Industrial City. The project worth QAR 334 million is awarded to Bin Omran Trading and Contracting Company.
The 16 km stretch will be expanded to facilitate smooth traffic to the industrial city for light as well as heavy vehicles. The road is located mainly along the western border and partly on the northern border of the Ras Laffan Industrial City, the main hub of LNG production. Upgrading this road will facilitate future expansion of the industry.
The major components of the project include linking Ras Laffan area with the recently completed North Road at Lahwilah Interchange (66); 8.5km long Dual carriage highway with three to four lanes on both directions, separated by median; 7.5 km highway connecting the adjacent residential areas and four signaled interchanges at various locations.
In addition, the project comprises infrastructure development such as rainwater drain system, wastewater treatment network, drinking water supply line, and extension of lines of power supply, telecommunications and intelligent transport systems.
The upgrade and beautification of Rayyan road's contract worth QAR 98 million is awarded to HBK Contracting and QBS Inc. The project includes development of 1.8 km stretch of Rayyan road located between Diwan Street and Jassim Bin Mohammed Street, playing an important outlet to Souq Waqef. The stretch will be reconstructed as two lane dual carriage highway with six traffic signals at intersections.
The major components include a new traffic signal at the intersection of Rayyan road, Kahraba St., Abdullah Thani St. and near the entrance of private parking to Emiri Diwan; a new traffic signal at the intersection of Jasem bin Mohamed St. with Mesat Street; upgrading the Rayyan road intersection and Jasem bin Mohamed St intersection and replacing Jasem bin Mohamed St roundabout and Wade Musheireb Intersection with new signaled intersection.
The new streets and foot paths will get high quality granite pavement with uniform style throughout the Musheireb properties area surrounding Doha city.
An underground pedestrian corridor shall be built along Jasem bin Mohamed St. at the north of Musheireb St intersection, linking Souq Waqef and the garden near the Grand Mosque at the heart of the city.
The contractor who implements this project is bound to retain entrances to all the properties around, as well as opening at least one lane in both directions during the construction process.
While the drainage projects compromise 5 main projects; including the Kharatiyat groundwater lowering project among four other projects. This project involves the establishment of a groundwater drain system to lower the groundwater to a deep 400m well in order to alleviate flooding of residential properties in Kharatiyat zone and provide new subdivisions and other developments for the entire area. The project is scheduled to be completed by the first quarter of 2013. The contract estimated at QAR 109 million is awarded to Qatar Building Company with Hyder Consultancy to provide consultancy service.
The construction of Gharafa area sewerage network project consists in the implementation of sewerage system for the disposal of collected water to the pumping station, which includes more than 23 kilometers of drainage pipelines, more than 760 Manholes, 1500 house connections and more than 15 km sub-links. The project worth QAR 52.5 million is awarded to Qatar Building Company.
The construction of a drainage network at Gharafa Rayyan project consists of establishing a sewerage disposal system for pumping the collected sewer to the pumping station, which includes the establishment of more than 620 manholes, 950 house connections and more than 11 kilometers sub links, in addition to 2km long micro tunnel pipelines with 400 mm diameter. The project worth 56 million Qatari Riyals will be implemented by Qatar Building Company.
While the project aimed at the construction of drainage lines at various residential areas connecting with ps70 and Doha North STW consists of creating sewage systems and house connections in the neighborhood areas of Gharafa, Gharafa- Rayyan, Ezghava and Kharitiat, linking them with Pumping Station No 70 (PS70) through sewer tunnel, where the wastewater will be pumped to Doha North STW. The house connections will be completed only after commissioning of PS 70 and Doha North STW. The entire project is to be completed by July 2013.
Al Khor Sewerage Project (Qatar North ) comprises of extension of the sewer network at Al Khor to include all residential neighborhoods in the region. The project worth QAT 122 million is implemented by Lotus Company and is expected to complete by the first quarter of 2015.
The building projects consist of the construction of (10) new kindergartens around Doha and villages. Ashghal signed contract worth 204 million Qatar Riyals with Imperial Trading and Contracting Company for construction of a number of kindergartens in different parts of the State. The areas include Doha, Rayyan, Dahayin, Mirqab, Thumama, Ferij Murrah, Kharitiat, Um Salal Mohamed, Um Salal Ali and Al Wajbah.
It also includes the construction of four new schools around Doha and villages.
On the other hand, Ashghal signed contract for construction of four new schools in different parts of the state involving Doha, Laqta, Al Asiri, Old Airport and Hazam-el-Markhia areas. The project estimated at 225 million Qatar Riyals is awarded to Al Jaber Trading and Contracting.
