Baghdad is to build 15 new bridges worth at total of $300 million (360 billion Iraqi dinars), in an attempt to improve traffic in the city. Eng. Talib Nejim al-Maamouri, head of Baghdad’s Engineering Department, told Al-Shorfa news agency: “An agreement was reached with 33 Iraqi, Turkish and Italian companies to start the project within 30 days …“The new bridges will help ease traffic, revitalise trade in the capital and bring more beauty to it.“
He said the bridges will be built in both al-Rasafa and al-Karkh in Baghdad and will include bridges on the Tigris River to link both sides of the capital.
The project is scheduled to be completed within two and half years.
