The Lebanese government must work again on expanding Rafik Hariri International airport to absorb 12 million passengers yearly, according to the secretary-general of the Arab Air Carriers Organization.
“The expansion of the airport by former Prime Minister Rafik Hariri to absorb 6 million passengers was seen by some as unnecessary,” Abdul-Wahab Teffaha said. “[But] Hariri was right about expanding the airport because it already registered 6 million passengers years ago.”
Teffaha’s remarks came during the 46th session of the Arab Air Carriers Organization’s Arab Aviation Summit for the Future held in Doha. Teffaha also praised the performance of Middle East Airlines, saying that the company had been able to record a good profit and increase its fleet despite the security and political challenges in Lebanon.
