Qatar’s Public Works Authority (Ashghal) has awarded a joint venture of Lebanon’s Consolidated Contractors Company (CCC) and local Teyseer Contractingholding a QAR2.82bn ($774m) contract to design and build the Al-Bustan Street North project.
Al-Bustan Street North is a crucial segment of Qatar’s $20bn Expressway Programme.
The project scope for Al-Bustan Street North includes:
• 1 bridge
• 8 underpasses
• 7 overpasses
• 4 intersections
• 5.4km long four-lane express roads in both directions
• side roads
• retaining walls
• pedestrian and bicycle paths
• traffic signaling system
• street lighting
• landscaping
The contract was retendered in January following the cancellation of a contract awarded in September 2016 to a team comprising Spain’s Ferrovial and Turkey’s Yuksel Insaat. The cancelled contract was worth $789m.
It is understood that the Spanish/Turkish team failed to raise the required bid bond on time, despite having submitted the best design, which led to the cancellation of the contract. They did not submit an offer when the contract was retendered in January.
An invitation to tender has also been released for Al-Bustan Street South, which has a significantly smaller scope compared to Al-Bustan Street North.
Both packages are part of Qatar’s Expressway Programme, which will deliver a total of 900 kilometers of mainline carriageway and about 200km at grade and multi-level intersections.
