Cassa Depositi e Prestiti (CDP) and ALEXBANK, part of the Intesa Sanpaolo Group, have signed a Memorandum of Understanding to bolster Egypt’s agrifood sector. The agreement, part of Italy’s Mattei Plan, aims to advance high-impact projects and develop financial tools, especially microcredit, to support Egyptian SMEs in agriculture.
The signing took place in Alexandria at the Farmers Market event, led by Italy’s prominent agricultural organization Coldiretti, with attendance from Italian Agriculture Minister Francesco Lollobrigida and Egyptian Minister of Supply Sherif Farouk. The initiative outlines cooperation to create funding opportunities, encourage sustainable supply chains, and strengthen collaboration between Egyptian and Italian businesses.
The three focus areas are: providing guarantee instruments with technical assistance, co-funding impactful projects with combined resources, and facilitating trade by hosting events for Egyptian and Italian companies. This partnership also aligns with the strategic cooperation framework between Egypt and the EU, further supported by other agreements signed during the Italian Prime Minister’s visit to Cairo in March.
