The Iraqi Central Bank decided to re-open its branches in Erbil and Sulaymaniyah early next month, after negotiations with the Kurdistan Regional Government, which lasted more than a year.
A Central Bank release defined the functions of the branches indicating that they will include the same activities available in other branches in Iraq. The Erbil branch will be reorganized but measures regarding the Sulaymaniyah branch are still pending.
However, the regional manager of the Sulaimaniya branch, Abdul Rahman Saleh, said that “the Iraqi Central Bank will first re-open the Erbil branch, while the opening of Sulaymaniyah branch will be postponed for some time.”
It’s worth to mention that the Central Bank of Iraq had cut off its relations with the Erbil and Sulaymaniyah branches few years ago, and last year, the it decided to re-open its branches in the Kurdistan Region officially.
