A Chinese company has been selected to develop a new residential city in Iraq with approximately 28,000 homes, a government official confirmed. Located near Mosul in the Nineveh Governorate, Al-Ghozlani City will be developed as an investment initiative by the Chinese firm, according to Nabil Saffar, spokesperson for Iraq’s Construction and Housing Ministry.
Saffar stated to the Iraqi News Agency that this 11-square-kilometer project is part of Iraq’s housing expansion strategy, which aims to construct millions of homes in five approved new cities for post-war reconstruction. The land has been handed over to the contractor, who has already begun setting up worker caravans on-site.
Although the company’s name was not disclosed, Saffar noted that Chinese firms are increasingly involved in Iraq’s housing sector, with additional city projects to be announced soon.
