The Kurdistan Regional Government (KRG) has announced the start of construction on the Shaqlawa-Harir road, a 10-km project valued at IQD 90 billion ($69 million). The development includes two overpasses and aims to enhance regional connectivity.
Project Highlights:
- Overpasses: One at Shaqlawa Industrial Zone to improve worker access and another near Mirawa Tunnel to boost village connectivity.
- Tunnels: Includes the Mawran and Mirawa tunnels.
- Regional Impact: Links Soran District to Erbil Governorate and strengthens trade routes between the Kurdistan Region and Iran.
- Traffic Reduction: Expected to ease congestion in Shaqlawa town.
- Local Workforce: Construction will rely on local labor and is set for completion within two years.
The KRG Ministry of Construction and Housing, in collaboration with the Erbil Directorate of Roads and Bridges, is overseeing the project as part of its broader efforts to improve transportation infrastructure in the region.
