As a result of the deal signed between the Best Western, the international hotel brand and Golden Mountains Company, the investor, in November last year, construction of the two properties belonging to the hotel group has commenced in Erbil, Iraq. The first one of the Best Western Premier hotels will have 82 rooms and will be situated at the Erbil airport. It will open just next to the Erbil international airport in the year 2013. The other hotel will be a 160 roomed branch of the Best Western at the center of the city by the first quarter of 2014.
Glenn de Souza, the vice president of Best Western International Hotel brand for Asia and Middle East has stated that, “Keeping in mind the various positive qualities and the development of the nation, Iraq has been finalized as the next step for the expansion of the hotel brand in the Middle east.”
“The historic value, economy of the country and the financial resources of the natives have been kept in mind. All of these points have provided Iraq the huge potential to become one of the most important business and tourism carters in the world.”
He has also added that, “Erbil with its good roads and increasing flight route access, has become one of the best choices to open a hotel, because within sometime it is going to be one of the most prominent trading centers in the country.”
There are already two medium scale hotels of Best Western International in Saudi Arabia and Qatar is also looking forward to open Premier quality hotels in countries like Oman and Kuwait. The Best Western Mahbola with 96 rooms in Kuwait and Best Western Premier Muscat with 212 rooms in Oman are to open by the end of the current year.
Mr. De Souza has also added that the company is actually looking forward for more opportunities in this area.
According to him, “As the Middle East is one of the fast growing markets and economy, Best Western is compelled to find more chances of expansion here. If there are good partners and substantial opportunity in other countries, they will try even further to expand regionally.”
All the same, after opening Best Western plus Sand Rose, a hotel in Al Khobar and Best Western Orchid, another hotel in Riyadh, the international hotel brand is planning more expansion in the country of Saudi Arabia.
