Edita Food Industries, a leading Egyptian snack food producer, has announced its entry into Iraq through a strategic partnership with Baghdad-based Tuama Jebur Abbas (TJA).
This marks a major step in Edita’s regional growth strategy, as the company acquires a 49% stake in TJA, a family-owned snack manufacturer, for $8 million via a capital increase.
As part of the agreement, Edita will establish its first production facility in Iraq, transitioning from an export-focused model to local manufacturing. Over the next three years, the company plans to invest $27 million to scale operations, double production capacity, and introduce its popular snack brands to Iraqi consumers.
The partnership will create a new entity, Edita Iraq, managed under a UAE-based holding company that ensures Edita’s control. The deal includes TJA’s existing factory, which features three production lines—two for cakes and one for biscuits. Edita plans to upgrade these facilities to boost output and efficiency, leveraging its technical expertise and manufacturing capabilities.
Hani Berzi, Edita’s Group Chairman and CEO, emphasized the importance of this expansion, stating:
“Iraq’s growing economy and untapped snack food market offer a remarkable opportunity to establish a leading national brand. We’re thrilled to partner with TJA, whose local knowledge will help us bring Edita’s innovative products to Iraqi consumers.”
