The United Nations Food and Agriculture Organization (FAO) announced Egypt's modern agriculture strategies to have helped the country attain food security.
FAO representative to Egypt Hussein Gadin stressed: "Egypt is still facing huge challenges in the light of the increasing demand for natural resources, particularly water, because of the growing needs of its large population."
The statement was made by the FAO representative at a ceremony Bibliotheca Alexandrina carried out to commemorate Food Day under the theme "Ending World Hunger by 2030, is Possible."
The representative noted that Egypt is losing 85 percent of its water resources to agriculture performed with traditional irrigation approaches.
Gadin added that Egypt mostly relies on imports so as to realize its requirements of basic food crops , including wheat and corn.
