The Erbil International Multi-Sector Trade Fair, which was held between 23 and 26 September in Erbil, is the most prominent specialized business event that takes place annually in the region. This international trade fair successfully stimulates and develops trade between Kurdistan and the rest of Iraq on one hand, and among neighboring states and the Asian, European, and American countries on the other.
Organized by IFP Iraq and held under the auspices of the Kurdistan Regional Government (KRG), the Erbil International Fair 2013 in its 9th edition gathered tens of thousands of visitors who flocked from the various provinces of Iraq and other countries in the region to the Erbil International Fair Ground, to grasp the numerous opportunities and seal prosperous business deals, and gain access to countless products.
During the past four days, 550 local, regional, and international companies from 20 countries showcased their products and services from electronics, home equipment and furniture passing through stationary, toys, fashion, and jewelry all the way to telecom solutions, information technology (IT), and electronic systems in addition to touristic and real estate services and other economic sectors. This year, 20 countries from all over the world had an active role in the fair, including Austria, Brazil, China, Egypt, Germany, Greece, India, Iran, Jordan, Kingdom of Saudi Arabia, Korea, Lebanon, Pakistan, Portugal, Syria, United Arab Emirates, and the United Kingdom.
Once again, like in the past nine years, the Erbil International Fair proved to be an international business demonstration hosted by the city of Erbil.
As a clear indicator of the extreme importance that various countries attach to the trade and investment movements in Kurdistan region and the rest of Iraq, a number of international associations and bodies supported the exhibition such as Jordan Enterprise Development Corporation (JDECO), the German Federal Ministry of Economy and Technology, the Iranian Ministry of Industry and Minerals, the Arab-Brazilian Chamber of Commerce (CCAB), the Turkish Ministry of Economy, Egypt Expo & Convention Authority (EECA), the Austrian Federal Economic Chamber, and many others.
During the show, many participant countries, associations and exhibitors declared that their trade volume with Iraq has increased due to their participation in Erbil International Fair. Exhibitors announced that EIF 2013 was a great opportunity for them to keep pace with the rapid growth of the region and Iraq in general. The fair provided them an entry point to the Iraqi market and fortified their presence.
Once again, the Erbil International Fair proved to be the most comprehensive event of its kind in Iraq. Located in the stable northern region of Kurdistan, the Erbil International Fair remains the ideal meeting place for companies wishing to safely enter the country and grasp the vast opportunities offered by Iraq’s fast growing economy.
