Saudi Arabia is set to receive its first ever on-field temporary hybrid plant, which will produce 54MWh per year from solar energy, in its Eastern Province.
Italian firm Building Energy signed an agreement with the Kingdom's Ministry of Energy and Mineral Resources, after being selected for the construction of a 50MW power plant as a part of the country's renewable energy production program.
Energy produced from the 14MW solar-diesel plant will be sold through five-year power purchase agreements.
Building Energy will work on the project through its offices in Dubai, UAE, and has teamed up with Smart Energy Solutions, a rental power provider based out of the UAE, local daily The Saudi Gazette reported.
"We are glad to be working with Smart Energy Solutions to develop this project in the MENA region, an area which is appealing for the renewables sector thanks to its rich natural resources, such as sun and wind," Massimo Teodori, Building Energy's managing director said.
"Recognizing the opportunity, several countries here have set specific objectives to increase the share of energy produced from renewable sources, starting a significant change in the energy system."
