Organized by Green Mind, a non-governmental organization, a press conference was held on Tuesday 4 September 2012 at the premises of BeitMisk to announce the launch of green and sustainable projects competition in Lebanon and the region. Winners will receive trophies of appreciation as an award to honor their achievements towards sustainability and protection of the environment in the MENA Region.
Giving incentives for larger green achievements
“We launched the Green Mind Award in order to encourage all individuals and community from the civil society that have made significant environmental changes to our life and country, and to give them incentives for larger green achievements’’ said Nada Zaarour, president of Green Mind, NGO.
“Winners of the Green Mind Award will be announced during a glamorous gala night at the ROYAL Pavilion of BIEL, Beirut – Lebanon on 31st of October 2012. The night will include a Green Carpet and Live Green entertainment with high media coverage produced and aired internationally by MTV on 16 November 2012 coinciding with the National Environment Day,” added Zaarour.
“There are 8 categories of awards open to entries from Individuals as well as the private sector, industries, NGOs, university students, communities or government,” said Gilbert Tegho, CEO and founder of e-Eco Solutions. “Entries for the competition must submit a complete application form online (www.GreenMind.me) before the deadline of 31st of September 2012,” he added.
The award jury is composed of H.E. Mr. Nazem El-Khoury, Minister of Environment, Ziad Baroud, former interior minister and civil society activist, Tatiana Antonelli Abella, Prof. Farid B. Chaaban, Raed H. Charafeddine, Pierre El Khoury, Hala Fadel, Dr. Ziad Iskandarani, May El Khalil, Sana Abdel Latif, Sadek Owainati, Iain Patton, Marwan Rizkallah, Roula W. Ajouz Sidani, Gilbert Tegho and Nada Zaarour.
Winners will be announced on 31st of October 2012 following a transparent jury scoring system, interviews with the 3 finalists of each category, and an audited deliberation session.
Winners will receive an iconic trophy
“One winner and one runner-up of each of the 8 categories will receive an iconic trophy designed and sculptured manually by a famous Lebanese artist. They will also be given the unique opportunity to meet with venture capital angels if their project requires further investments, plus a monetary prize of $5,000 for students, journalists or NGO winners,” noted Tegho.
“The enthusiasm and encouragements that we received exceeded our expectations. Be it from the high number of interested participants, sponsors, local and international jury members, media partners, and all companies or persons that are helping us to shape the Green Mind Award towards a landmark glamorous annual rendez-vous in the MENA region” concluded Tegho.
