The Gulf Association of Family Medicine (GAFM) convened in Doha, bringing together committee heads and members on the sidelines of the inaugural Family and Community Medicine Conference.
The meeting, inaugurated by Dr. Samia Al-Abdullah, President of the Qatar Association for Family and Community Medicine, reviewed GAFM’s recent activities, including e-seminars, lectures, and workshops. Discussions also focused on enhancing internal communication among member associations in GCC countries, particularly in light of the growing number of events and initiatives.
Dr. Mohammed Al-Azmi, President of GAFM, emphasized the importance of standardizing the Association’s media identity in collaboration with member associations, adhering to each country’s laws. This unification aims to strengthen GAFM’s scientific, societal, and marketing presence.
Dr. Mona Taher, Vice President of the Qatar Association for Family and Community Medicine, highlighted the need for continued collaboration to address shared health challenges in Gulf communities. She stressed the value of scientific and community-focused efforts in maintaining engagement with the medical and broader Gulf communities.
The meeting also resolved to invite distinguished family physicians from across the Gulf to participate in events and expand the scope of engagement to include resident family doctors and even patients.
Additionally, GAFM explored proposals and recommendations to elevate the scientific and professional competencies of family physicians in the Gulf, reinforcing its role in advancing this essential medical field.
