Hamad Medical Corporation’s (HMC) Mental Health Service (MHS) and the Primary Health Care Corporation (PHCC) are expanding their specialist, integrated mental health clinics within primary healthcare facilities, reinforcing their commitment to improving access and reducing stigma around mental health care.
This month, MHS and PHCC will introduce 24 new specialist clinics across PHCC centers, enhancing accessibility to mental health assessment, treatment, and care at the following locations:
• Al Waab Health Center
• Al Sadd Health Center
• Al Mashaf Health Center
• Qatar University Health Center
• Al Wajba Health Center
Dr. Majid Al Abdulla, Chairman of Psychiatry at HMC, highlighted the significance of this expansion, noting, “This initiative benefits patients and supports the redevelopment of our Salwa Road hospital. I personally held my first clinic at Al Saad Health Center and was impressed by the smooth operation and positive patient feedback. We are eager to build on this early success.”
Dr. Samya Al Abdulla, Senior Consultant Family Physician and Executive Director of Operations at PHCC, emphasized the holistic approach, explaining, “Integrating mental health services into primary care allows for the simultaneous management of physical and mental health conditions, leading to better patient outcomes. Expanding these clinics will help more people access mental health services without the common barriers, reducing wait times and improving care quality.”
She further added, “This initiative aligns with our mission to provide comprehensive healthcare. By incorporating psychiatry into our primary care settings, we ensure patients receive the care they need in familiar environments. Our partnership with HMC’s Mental Health Service has been vital in making this expansion possible.”
