Habtoor Leighton Group (HLG) has announced that it has won a contract from Kahramaa, Qatar's electricity and water authority, to install $300mn worth of pipelines.
The contract is for two sections of Doha's Mega Reservoir Corridor project.
HLG's Qatari arm, Leighton Contracting (Qatar), will supply, install, test and commission 120km of 1600mm diameter ductile iron pipes and fittings.
Works also include trench excavation, backfilling and construction of all valve chambers. Work has already started on site and is due to complete by the third quarter of 2016.
This contract brings the total value of new project awards to HLG during 2014 to $2bn – close to doubling HLG’s December 2013 work in hand to $4.48bn.
The pipelines project is the fifth project awarded to HLG by Kahramaa, with a total value of around $600mn.
HLG CEO and managing director, José Antonio López-Monís, said: “Securing repeat business from key government clients demonstrates that HLG remains a preferred contractor for clients to whom we have demonstrated our ability to deliver complex projects, safely, on time and on budget."
The Group’s first project for Kahraama was for the construction of the Duhail and Umm Qarn Reservoirs in 2009.
A further contract for the construction of two reservoirs and associated works in Shahaniya was secured in 2010 and, in 2012, HLG secured the contract for the construction of the Al Kaaban reservoir and pipeline, as well as a reservoirs project.
