Sultan Haitham City will be a central part of a $2.5 billion Smart City initiative, designed to house 100,000 residents and serve both locals and tourists. Located in Oman, the city aims to blend traditional low-rise architecture with modern infrastructure.
It will connect to the Gulf Railway project, estimated at $245 billion, linking six GCC countries, including Oman, Saudi Arabia, and the UAE. Spanning over 1,300 miles, this will mark Oman’s first rail system, enhancing regional transportation and trade.
Originally slated to open in 2018, the Gulf Railway has faced delays due to budget challenges. Oman Rail will manage the country’s segment, connecting Muscat to major GCC cities. Despite fluctuations in oil and mineral prices affecting timelines, construction is expected to begin soon.
Sultan Haitham City aims to diversify Oman’s economy and reduce oil dependence, with completion expected by 2045, all while preserving cultural heritage.
