The Ankara-based Bergiz İnşaat Company is due to construct the Tabriz subway as well as a highway connecting two Iranian Northwestern cities of Tabriz and Bazargan, the Customs Today Newspaper reported.
Berfu Tutumlu, a member of Bergiz İnşaat’s executive board, said that the highway project costs nearly US$1 billion and the subway project will be completed for US$ 850 million.
“The subway line for which we signed a pre-settlement agreement, starts at Tabriz Airport and connects to the Southern Ring Road passing through the city center,” Tutumlu explained, adding that the company wants to complete the project by 2017.
The 255-kilometer-long Tabriz-Bazargan Highway Project is also one of the most significant highway projects in Iran for which Turkey and Iran have established an associated company together. Bergiz İnşaat owns 65 percent of the total shares of the new company and the Ministry of Roads and Transportation of Iran owns the rest, the report added.
