Iraq is set to develop its first wind power plant with a capacity of 500 megawatts (MW) as part of post-war efforts to restore its electricity network and address ongoing supply shortages, according to the official Iraqi News Agency.
The National Investment Commission (NIC) has completed a feasibility study for the project, NIC spokesperson Hanan Jassim stated, without providing further details.
As OPEC’s second-largest oil producer, Iraq has already awarded solar power projects totaling 7.5 gigawatts (GW) to France’s TotalEnergies and other foreign and local companies.
