Iraq begins the construction of Faw Port

Iraq announced the beginning of the first step to establish Faw Port overlooking the Gulf States. Iraq placed the foundation stone for Faw Port on April 2010, a year before the Kuwait declared plans to build Port Mubarak, but Faw's implementation was delayed.
The Transport Ministry will discuss later today a number of bids made by several companies to implement the project. The ministry said its minister Hadi al-Amiri will oversee the coordination, of the tenders in the capital Baghdad.
The construction of Faw Port in Basra will allow the transfer of goods from Japan, China and South East Asia to Europe via Iraq.
