Iraq has awarded contracts for the construction of five new cities across the country, with plans to launch six additional projects, according to an official statement to the Iraqi News Agency (INA).
Among the awarded projects is Ali Al-Wardi City near Baghdad, a large-scale development featuring 120,000 housing units. The contract has been granted to Ora Developers, owned by Egyptian businessman Naguib Sawiris.
“This is the largest new city in Iraq… its designs are complete, and the project will commence soon following cabinet approval,” said Nabil Al-Saffar, spokesperson for the Construction and Housing Ministry.
He added that the Ministry is preparing to offer six more city projects through investment initiatives, as part of a broader strategy to address Iraq’s housing shortage.
