Shafaq News reports that Iraq’s Ministry of Electricity has signed three contracts with the Swedish company Linxon to modernize power substations in Baghdad and Diyala.
According to a statement from the Minister of Energy’s media office, the agreements cover the rehabilitation of three key 400 kV transformation stations: North Baghdad, South Baghdad, and Diyala.
The project will incorporate equipment from Hitachi and focus on upgrading electrical systems, enhancing protection and control mechanisms, and improving substation infrastructure to ensure reliable and efficient operation.
Iraq continues to expand its electricity sector, with plans to establish two solar power plants in Kirkuk Province, adding a total capacity of 500 megawatts to help alleviate energy shortages.
Additionally, Iraq’s Gulf Power Grid Connection Project is slated for completion by late 2025, granting the country access to the Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC) energy trading platform.
