Iraq’s Ministry of Planning has reported a drop in poverty rates and announced the release dates for the final census results.
Ministry spokesperson Abdul Zahra Al-Hindawi told Shafaq News that the country’s poverty rate fell from 21.5% in 2022 to 17.6% in 2024, attributing the decline to “government-led economic relief efforts.”
Al-Hindawi confirmed that the results of the General Census of Population and Housing will be published on February 24, with detailed poverty statistics to follow on February 26, providing insights at both national and provincial levels.
Iraq conducted its first nationwide census in 37 years on November 20–21, 2024, recording a population of over 45 million and an annual growth rate of 2.3%.
