A Spanish mission visited Jordan in order to meet with representatives of Jordanian firms working in the area of renewable energy. The Kingdom has responded to the electricity crisis by encouraging foreign investment in clean sources of energy, especially through the new Renewable Energy and Efficiency Law.
The economic and commercial attaché of the Spanish Embassy in Amman told the Petra news agency that Jordan’s strategic location and political stability make it an attractive destination for Spanish investment. This is especially true for the renewable energy sector in light the country’s current dependence on energy imports.
The attaché said that the purpose of the mission is to allow Spanish companies to identify investment opportunities in Jordan, including meeting with Jordanian counterparts to establish joint ventures, and to become more aware of the legal framework for foreign investment.
Spain is one of the world’s leading countries in renewable energy, leading it to seek investment opportunities in the Middle East, where even the oil producers are concerned about running out of conventional fuels. As a result, Spain has been active in promoting the industry in MENA states from Morocco to Saudi Arabia.
