Kurds are demanding an increase in the share of the Iraqi budget from current 17% to 23%, an Iraqi Kurdish MP said. Mahma Khalil of the Kurdish Blocs Coalition (KBC) in the Iraqi parliament said Sunday that the share of Kurdistan Region from the Iraqi budget should be 23% and a general census should be held in order to determine the population.
Khalil's statement comes after the Iraqi Deputy Prime Minister Hussein Shahristani called on the Iraqi authorities to reduce Kurdistan's current 17% to 13% because, as he believed, that portion did not represent the Kurdish region.
