According to the latest statistics issued by the International Air Transport Association (IATA), Middle Eastern carriers reported a year-on-year growth of 17.6% in passenger demand during the first five months of 2012. The regional operators outperformed others around the world. In fact, Latin American carriers recorded a year-on-year rise of 9.8%, followed by those in Asia/Pacific with 7.3%, then the European carriers with 6.1%, and the North American ones with 2.7%.
Middle Eastern carriers also outperformed others around the world with a year-on-year rise of 12.5% in passenger capacity in the aforementioned period of 2012. The Middle East was followed by Latin America with 7.8%, Asia/Pacific with 4.9%, Europe with 3.4% and North America with 0.9%. Load factors were the second-weakest among regions at 77.2%, surpassing Asia/Pacific with 76.8%, and exceeded by North America (78.7%), Latin America (78.4%) and Europe (77.7%).
