The Saudi Railway Company (SAR) will operate a passenger and goods train linking Riyadh with five cities next year, Al-Hayat daily reported.
The train, which can provide services to 2 million passengers annually, links Riyadh with Al-Majmah, Al-Qassim, Hail, Al-Jouf and Al-Qurayyat. It will travel at 200 kilometers per hour.
The train which will transport goods as well has 90 cars, each with a capacity of 70 tons. Nine cargo stations were built in Riyadh, Sadeer City for Industry and Business, Al-Qassim, Prince Musaad Economic City of Hail, Al-Jouf, Al-Haditha, Al-Busaita, Ras Al-Khair and Al-Jubail.
The SAR trains will carry phosphate to plants in Ras Al-Khair Port. Each train has 150 cars and is 2.5 kilometers long. It can carry over ten million tons a year. The railway will help in developing the mining industry in the Kingdom.
