Statistics released by the Lebanese Ministry of Industry convey a 10.56% annual increase in the number of industrial decisions to 356 during the year 2021, up from 322 in 2020 yet came in lower than the 805 figure reported in 2019. The Mount Lebanon region accounted for the lion’s share (57.87%) of industrial decisions issued in 2021, followed by the Bekaa & Hermel (23.03%) and Nabatieh (8.99%) regions.
Furthermore, the statistics unveil that 29.21% of industrial decisions were geared towards warnings, settlements, or the reopening of plants, while 28.37% were channeled to rejection of establishment license/closure purposes.
Sector-wise, the food products industry accounted for the bulk (42.70%) of industrial decisions issued during the year 2021, followed by the chemical products (16.57%) and rubber & plastic (4.49%) industries. Finally, industrial decisions falling under Category 4 represented 44.10% of issued industrial decisions in 2021, followed by Category 3 (41.29%) and Category 2 (10.11%), only to name a few.
