The Governor of Al Dhahirah, Najeeb al Rawas, has signed agreements for various service and development projects worth over RO 12.5 million ($32.4 million) across the governorate’s wilayats, according to Oman Daily Observer.
Among the agreements are two major projects to construct viewing platforms in Yanqul and Dhank, each covering 65,000 square meters and costing a total of RO 4 million. These platforms aim to enhance recreational services for residents and tourists, offering amenities like open-air theatres, sports fields, children’s playgrounds, water features, restaurants, cafes, and various service facilities.
Al Rawas stated that these agreements align with the Governorate Development Programme for 2023-2024, focusing on balanced development across the wilayats. The viewing platforms will promote Al Dhahirah’s natural beauty and tourism potential while expanding green spaces and investment opportunities.
Additionally, projects to pave internal roads in Ibri, Yanqul, and Dhank have been agreed upon, with a total cost exceeding RO 6 million. The plan includes 60 km in Ibri, and 25 km each in Yanqul and Dhank, alongside maintenance for roads damaged by recent weather events, totaling over RO 2.7 million.
Eng. Naseer bin Ali al Siyabi, Director General of Al Dhahirah Municipality, emphasized that these agreements are vital for developing municipal services and infrastructure in line with Oman Vision 2040. The viewing platforms are expected to boost local tourism and provide recreational options for all community members, while also creating job opportunities through commercial activities.
He noted that the road projects will significantly improve connectivity within the governorate, facilitating movement and enhancing the aesthetic character of the wilayats, thereby stimulating social, economic, and tourism sectors.
