According to the Times of Oman, the total amount of fish landed through artisanal fishing in Oman reached 371,934 tons by the end of July 2024, reflecting a 15% increase compared to the same period in 2023, when 323,297 tons were recorded. Preliminary statistics from the National Center for Statistics and Information (NCSI) also revealed that the value of the landed fish totaled approximately $718.1 million (RO 276.6 million).
Additionally, fish landings from commercial fishing by the end of July 2024 amounted to 32,976 tons, while coastal fishing accounted for 4,629 tons.
The Governorate of Al Wusta led in artisanal fish landings, with 130,854 tons, followed by South Al Sharqiyah with 102,838 tons. North and South Al Batinah governorates recorded a combined total of 47,904 tons, while Dhofar registered 41,132 tons. In Musandam, fish landings reached 29,603 tons, and Muscat recorded 19,602 tons.
NCSI data also showed that small pelagic fish comprised the largest share of artisanal fishing, totaling 201,275 tons. Large pelagic fish landings reached 97,039 tons, and demersal fish accounted for 61,913 tons by the end of July 2024.
Shark and ray landings increased to 4,810 tons in July 2024, up from 3,601 tons during the same period in 2023.
