In response to increasing demand for red meat, Oman’s Ministry of Agriculture, Fisheries and Water Resources (MOAF) has imported more than 428,000 live animals.
As of March 24, the imports include 29,092 cattle and 399,357 sheep and goats. The ministry is working in close coordination with livestock importers to ensure adequate supply, providing support by streamlining the import process. So far, 129 import permits have been issued for live animal shipments.
To safeguard public health, the Veterinary Quarantine Department is actively monitoring all incoming livestock. Veterinary staff are enforcing strict health protocols to prevent the introduction or spread of contagious or epidemic diseases, serving as the first line of defense in animal and public health protection.
