On October 6, Oman inaugurated the Food Security Lab 2024, an initiative organized by the Ministry of Agriculture, Fisheries, and Water Resources in collaboration with the Oman Vision 2040 Implementation Follow-up Unit, the National Programme for Investment and Export Development (Nazdahir), the National Employment Programme (NEP), and private sector partners.
The opening ceremony was officiated by Dr. Saud Hamoud Al Habsi, Minister of Agriculture, Fisheries, and Water Resources.
The lab aims to promote local and international investment across various food security sectors in alignment with Oman Vision 2040. It will introduce key enablers to strengthen the food security industry, develop investment opportunities tied to in-country value (ICV), enhance digital transformation, address challenges to the ministry’s strategic plan, and improve institutional performance.
Key objectives include maximizing economic returns from natural resources, fostering ICV-based investments, empowering local suppliers and small and medium enterprises (SMEs), and launching initiatives to support suppliers and the Omani workforce.
