The Ministry of Agriculture, Fisheries, and Water Resources has unveiled a series of projects and investment opportunities aimed at strengthening food security, in collaboration with government entities and private sector partners.
Salim bin Abdullah Al Ghufaili, Director General of Food Security at the Ministry, highlighted the launch of the country’s first sugar refining project, spanning 18,000 sqm at Sohar Port. The project is expected to produce approximately one million tonnes of refined sugar annually.
Equipped with cutting-edge European production lines, the refinery will produce high-quality sugar for local, regional, and international markets. Al Ghufaili noted that the project is 91% complete.
In parallel, Salalah Mills Company is advancing the Food Industries Centre Project at Khazaen Economic City, with an estimated investment of OMR 18.5 million. The facility, with an initial production capacity of 1.4 million units per day, is slated to commence operations by the end of the year.
Additional initiatives include the construction of wheat silos at Sohar Port, boosting grain storage capacity to 160,000 tonnes. Al Ghufaili also mentioned the expansion of Oman Mills Company’s fodder factory in Muttrah, increasing production capacity by 20 tonnes to enhance food security and strengthen production chain integration.
