The Special Economic Zone Authority at Duqm (SEZAD) is advancing its commitment to environmental sustainability by enhancing green spaces across the region. To mark Oman Agriculture Day 2024, SEZAD organized a Casuarina tree-planting event in collaboration with OQ Gas Networks and Marafiq Central. The initiative saw participation from students of Al Saad International School and employees from various government and private organizations, reflecting strong community involvement.
Progress Towards Greener Goals
SEZAD has achieved over 85% of its 2024 goal to plant 5,000 trees, with the target on track to be met by year-end. Major afforestation projects, including the 16-kilometer Sultan Qaboos Street with its three roundabouts, the service road in the exhibition district, and the airport road, are now complete.
Sustainability Through Innovation
Modern irrigation systems have been installed at all afforestation sites to ensure sustainability. Ibrahim bin Zaher Al Rawahy, Head of the Afforestation and Gardens Department, emphasized that tree species such as Casuarina and Poinciana, which thrive in Duqm’s arid climate, were selected to enhance the region’s vegetation cover.
Corporate Commitment to Sustainability
Eng. Ahmed bin Karam Al Balushi, Operations Manager at OQ Gas Networks, praised SEZAD’s initiatives, highlighting the importance of collaborative efforts between corporate entities and the community in promoting environmental sustainability and creating a greener Duqm.
With its ongoing afforestation projects and innovative practices, SEZAD continues to set a strong example of sustainable development in Oman.
