Oman’s Ministry of Transport, Communications, and Information Technology has signed a 40-year agreement with Asyad Group to develop, manage, and operate Suwaiq Port.
The agreement, signed by Minister H.E. Said bin Hamood al Mawali and Oman Investment Authority President Abdulsalam al Murshidi, aims to position Suwaiq Port as a key player in global trade. The initiative aligns with Oman’s strategy to enhance port efficiency, expand import-export capabilities, and attract international shipping lines, thereby connecting Oman to global markets and driving economic growth.
H.E. Mawali highlighted that the project supports Oman’s national vision to improve infrastructure through public-private partnerships, diversify the economy, and strengthen the nation’s global competitiveness.
Key Features of the Agreement
- Infrastructure Development: Construction of a 500-meter-long, 14-meter-deep berth designed to accommodate various cargo types, including bulk, liquid, dry goods, and vehicles.
- Operational Efficiency: Introduction of advanced cargo handling systems and expanded storage capacity to meet growing demand.
- Port Expansion: Increasing Suwaiq Port’s area to over 360,000 square meters to enhance regional competitiveness and support local economic growth, particularly in food security.
The port will remain a multi-purpose commercial hub, facilitating international shipping lines and handling diverse goods, reinforcing its role as a vital link in global trade.
