Oman is making significant strides in healthcare development with the approval of major projects by the Council of Ministers, under the leadership of His Majesty Sultan Haitham bin Tarik. These initiatives reflect a substantial investment in the nation’s health sector, signaling progress toward improved health outcomes for all Omanis.
His Excellency Dr. Hilal bin Ali Al-Sabti, Minister of Health, announced to the Oman News Agency that the Council of Ministers has greenlit a national program focused on the early detection of prevalent cancers among women. As part of this program, seven early detection units will be established across all governorates, underscoring the government’s dedication to enhancing quality of life, supporting families, and facilitating early diagnosis and treatment through cutting-edge technology, including artificial intelligence.
In tandem with this initiative, Oman will build a nuclear and radiopharmaceutical facility to address the rising demand for cancer diagnostics and treatment. This facility is set to become a hub for education and research, positioning Oman as a regional leader in cancer care and innovation.
To address the increasing need for specialized eye care, the country will establish a national ophthalmology center outfitted with state-of-the-art diagnostic tools.
A groundbreaking step in personalized healthcare will also be taken with the launch of the national genome and human data initiative, known as the Omani Genome Project. This project will create a comprehensive genomic reference for Omanis, paving the way for precision medicine and enhancing diagnostic capabilities.
Dr. Al-Sabti emphasized that the Ministry of Health is committed to the swift and effective implementation of these programs, with plans already in motion.
These projects align closely with the health objectives outlined in Oman Vision 2040, ensuring equitable, high-quality healthcare access throughout the country. They complement ongoing health infrastructure developments across various governorates.
